News Roundup: 30 October 2011

The news stories of the week that caught my eye.  Read more after the jump!  Links to the original articles are in the titles.

Target has games?  Huh...

As spotted across gaming-dom, Target is getting into the holidays right smack in the middle of the big releases. During Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception's launch week, gamers can enjoy a B2G1F deal! That's crazy! Certainly sales like this will happen after the annual retail sacrifice which is Black Friday, but getting a jump on it? With quality titles like UC3, Battlefield 3 and Batman: Arkham City already on the shelf, savvy gamers can score an extra game from the quality offerings. Too bad this isn't happening just before Black Friday because we'd have Skyrim, MW3 and maybe even Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword to snag, too.

This is the face of a time sink

Really, nothing more needs to be said. Well, except will this have cross-platform implications for mulitplayer? Cheers to Joystiq for this.

It's so ugly

I know that the PC master race constantly whines that their beautiful games have to be dumbed down for the console kids, but for once they're right. I mean, this looks like a PS2 game...and not a particularly good one at that. As seen at 1Up, the 360 version needs that 15GB install to even look like a 360 game. That's unfortunate for those without HDDs. I just am blown away by the VAST difference between the game running off the disc and running with the pack installed. It's mind boggling.

The Eurogamer forums for Uncharted 3: Drake's Decption

Wow. I know some folks are really one-sided, but this is ridiculous. I mean, an 8 is a bad score?!? What the hell? Sure, it's not the blockbuster follow up it could have been (according to the review), but it's still a solid/great score. Now, I do have to agree with a few of the raging nerds that are saying Modern Warfare 3 should be held to the same standard and if it's “not as good as MW2 then it should get a lower score.” Overall, though, Jim at Destructiod has it right: bunch of nutters.

OBJECTION!

I...wait, what? This actually looks good! I'm kinda of excited. Only kinda, but still! Thanks to Joystiq for this.
