News Roundup: 23 October 2011

Well, here's a brief news roundup for the week ending 23 October 2011 after the jump.
Thierry Nyugen over at 1Up did a wonderful piece on the history of the Uncharted series.  With the new game coming in two weeks, it's nice to see where it all came from and some of the challenges the team faced.  I'm definitely pumped for the third game!  Read all about it here.

The man, Nathan Drake!

Super sad news that we knew was coming: Mark Hamill retires as the voice of the Joker.  His last turn was in Batman: Arkham City.  He will forever be the Joker in my head (from the awesome cartoon as well as the games) and I'm sad to see him go.  Game Informer has a short "goodbye" and a link to IGN's interview with the now retired Clown Prince of Crime.

Good night, sweet Prince.

One that I'm personally really excited about: Syndicate is getting redone as a First Person Shooter.  I hadn't realised how much I'd missed cyberpunk until Deus Ex: Human Revolution, and now seeing Syndicate getting relaunched has me salivating.  And, for the fans of the isometric original, there was this piece out of GameSpy.  I hope that the PC fans won't be turned off by the new direction, and that the awesome looking Syndicate does well.

Merritt, your mentor/partner in the new Syndicate.   Business is war.

Not that I'm a fan of MMORPGs at all, but it's good to hear that Azeroth isn't being abandoned quite yet.  I know a few people that are happy with the new Kung-Fu Panda expansion: Mists of Pandaria.  Phil Kollar at Game Informer is posting from BlizzCon, giving up to the minute updates for fans.

Everybody was Kung-fu fighting!  ...sorry, had to!

Well, those were some of the big stories this week.  Coming up, we've got Battlefield 3 launching on Tuesday and firing the first shots against the juggernaut Modern Warfare 3 in an "Modern Military FPS Showdown!"  Following that, we have Uncharted 3 (1 November), MW3 (8 November) and Skyrim (11 November).  Ah, the typical Holiday Rush begins in earnest.  Hope your wallets are ready...
