News Roundup: 26 February 2012

Man, I have been so busy this week!  After picking up Syndicate on Tuesday, the Vita dropped Wednesday.  I'm not ashamed to say that Hot Shots Golf: World Invitational has consumed far too many hours to be healthy.  With that, on with the news!

Well, Activision is in it again.  Already disliked by a great many gamers, the behemoth publisher is in hot water with the gaming journalist community.  Gameblog, a French gaming website, has been in trouble with Activision.  Gameblog reported on the possibility of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 and Activision asked them to remove the offending post.  After polite refusals,  Activision made it clear that Gameblog was no longer allowed to Activision events and would not be receiving previews or review copies of games.  After the gaming world caught wind, Activision has reversed course a bit.  We'll see where this goes, but it's not really fair for a publisher (especially one as big as Activision) to hold out on sites because they say/do something that Activision doesn't agree with.  That's a slippery slope to buying reviews and worse.   (via Gameblog)

Publisher Remedy has finally released the thriller Alan Wake on PC.  The Xbox 360 exclusive had the unfortunate release date shared with Red Dead Redemption.  Sales were good, but nothing to write home about (pun intended).  Now, the PC version has made back it's costs entirely within a weekend.  Hopefully this means that Alan Wake 2 is going to happen soon! With the release of the PS Vita, Sony has two handhelds on the market.  The 8 year old PSP uses UMD media to hold games.  The Vita uses mostly digital media, along with small cards.  Since the Vita is backwards compatible, digital PSP games are playable on the Vita.  Other territories have a program where players can trade in their UMDs for a voucher for the digital version.  Shuhei Yoshita, VP of Sony,  explained that there wasn't a "market" for a program like that in the US.  Uh-huh.  Sure.  (via Joystiq)

Prepare to Joy Puke Your Face Off! Borderlands 2 Is Coming 18 September with %96.5 More Wub Wub!

Hell yes!

God of War 4 is probably the worst kept secret in the industry right now.  It's been outed by LinkedIn profiles for music and online programming, and now by a South African retailer.  We anxiously await the official word, but it's a foregone conclusion.  (via Game Informer)

Yay!  Not much else needs to be said!  (via Joystiq)

In a potentially lucrative and amazing move, Sony is releasing the multiplayer portion of Killzone 3 on the PSN.  The free version features a level cap, but you can buy the full version for $15.  This is such a cool idea, and it's one that I hope catches traction. (via Joystiq)
