Another week gone, another news post is up! There's some good news, some bad and lots of stuff on Mass Effect 3. I don't spoil anything in the post, but the links in that story are SPOILERS so be forewarned!
thatgamecompany's Kellee Santiago |
There's a pretty cool interview with thatgamecompany's co-founder Kellee Santiago up. She is one of the leaders in discussing "games as art" debate. Check it out and, if you have a PS3, their new game Journey. It's great to have visionaries like her in the industry, and learning from her could really change up the industry.
Earth burns, all because the ending is that bad? |
*Be aware, all links here have MASSIVE SPOILERS for the ending for Mass Effect 3. You have been warned!*
Bioware has finished their space epic Mass Effect and apparently it wasn't the ending that most folks wanted. Studio head, Dr Ray Muzyka, has acknowledged the outrage in a blog post (linked above). Why is this such a big deal? Well, fans point to this article, where a writer complains that the ending wasn't cleared by the writing team and was just thrown in at the last. There is a theory on the ending that claims it's not actually real/happening, too. The "Indoctrination Theory" has been gaining ground, too. Fans have compiled their own (again, spoiler-filled) list of what's wrong and why the "Indoctrination Theory" is right. If you've finished the game, what are your thoughts? EDIT: There is a great breakdown here, too.
Retailer GAME is about to go out |
UK's largest video game retailer has gotten to the point of no return. Tomorrow will see what happens, but the options are bad to worse. Hopefully GAME will be able to right the ship while under administration and continue selling games to the UK public. If not, well, there are not many other options.
Publishers in the UK are getting a tax break! Joining Canada as a publisher/developer friendly area, the UK has a package of tax breaks for game makers working in the country. This is some great news for the industry.
Capcom's Yoshinori Ono, master troll |
Popular Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono collapsed in Korea after an event. It's not life-threatening, and he is expected to make a full recovery soon. Ono has lead the resurgence of 2D fighters when he made Street Fighter IV and the recently released Street Fighter X Tekken. Here's to a swift recovery, Ono-san!
Yep, launch that bird |
The Seattle Space Needle is currently a giant launcher for the Angry Birds. To celebrate the launch (haha) of Angry Birds: Space our local tourist trap has a giant red bird attached. Cool?
These folks may be gone soon |
Sony's military shooter gurus, Zipper Interactive, may be shutting down. Over the last week, the developer of the SOCOM titles, MAG, and the Vita's Unit 13 has laid off a number of employees. Sony itself has not officially commented on the rumors that the studio will be shut down in the coming week. While Unit 13 wasn't great, it was fun. The studio had a great run during the PS2 era, but the current generation hasn't been kind to them. I hope those that are looking for work find it swiftly.
Prey 2 may be headed for the big alien garbage dump in the sky |
The open-world bounty hunter game, Prey 2, may be headed for the bin. The developers were due to chat about the game at the recent Game Developers Conference, but those talks were cancelled. Now comes more rumors that the game is going to be cancelled. I would suspect that official word will come early this next week. I hope not, as Prey 2 looked really good.
My cousin is the Lead Engineer for thatgamecompany. Pretty sweet how big they're getting.
ReplyDeleteThat is amazing! I love their work and their company mission/ethos. Consider me a huge fan!
