Bungie says goodbye to their franchise |
An era is over. Bungie, the studio that created Halo and unleashed it on the masses has stepped away. Their last act as stewards of the franchise was to release some eye-popping stats about the multiplayer. The fact that more people have been killed in Halo than have lived on Earth ever is pretty neat. And there are plenty of other cool things to check out. I'm sure I speak for a lot of folks when I say, "Thank you, Bungie! We'll miss you!" (via Kotaku)
This is getting a bit worrisome. Both the Playstation Orbis and the Microsoft Durango are rumored to have some sort of anti-used game systems in place. Rumors coming via Edge are saying that Microsoft is following the PC lead and instituting DRM, like requiring an internet connection to even play. While I understand the need to stop piracy, this may hurt sales in the long run. Despite the fact that many folks have access to broadband internet, not everyone connects their boxes (and a scant few don't have broadband at all). Hopefully since these are just rumors for now, things will change at by launch. We'll have to wait and see. (via Edge)
Yay! They've been saved! |
Beleaguered video game retailer GAME has been saved! Op Capita has come in to rescue the company from administration. This is great news for UK shoppers as it keeps the high street retailer from going the way of the dodo. The company still has to repair relationships with publishers and start actually carrying the product again, but this is wonderful news all the same. (via Edge)
I'm Commander Shepard and this is my favorite ending on the Citadel |
Fan backlash to the ending of Mass Effect 3 (talked about last week) has not fallen on deaf ears. The team at Bioware has stated that they are always ready to listen to criticism and make the appropriate changes. So, it is with little surprise that they announced Mass Effect 3: Extended Cut, a free to download expansion on the ending. It's worth noting that the download doesn't change the choices offered, nor does it change the ending proper, but adds an epilogue to close out the story better. While I wasn't a fan, I hope that the extended bit doesn't do too much damage the "artistic vision" of the game. (via Eurogamer)

FFXIII-2 Characters Model Men's Fashion in Japanese Mag
The characters in JRPGs are always pretty, but usually not "model" pretty. That's all changed for the cast of Final Fantasy XIII-2 and Prada. A Japanese men's fashion magazine has used the characters to model their Spring line. Really, not much else needs to be said. (via Kotaku)
In an effort to make online gaming safer for children, the state of New York, multiple police agencies, and video game companies teamed up in Operation: Game Over. Over 3,000 accounts of sexual predators were banned in the sting. This operation was done to make sure that incidents of sex offenders using online games to find/befriend/lure victims drops significantly. Hopefully, parents still pay attention to what their children are doing online, but this makes New York just a bit more proactive on that front. (via Kotaku)
While not really about video games, this is still pretty cool. A man in Japan is racing about the country raising awareness for the continued recovery efforts after the massive earthquake last year. The bike, which cost a small fortune to make, is sanctioned by Akira's creator. Pretty cool stuff! (via Kotaku)
OK, I'm sick of dubstep. Not a fan. And it seems like every single game these days has a dubstep trailer. The link above has a compilation of some of the most cringe-worthy. Personally, I laughed pretty hard at the one shown here. But I also cried at the System Shock 2 theme being murdered. Please, go away bro-step. (via Kotaku)
